Where PetHour collects sales tax
Most pet care isn't taxed in the US. Where a service is taxed, state law makes PetHour — the marketplace that takes the payment — collect the tax and pay it to the state for the caregiver. Caregivers never add sales tax to PetHour bookings. You always see the tax on its own line before you pay, and when a booking is refunded, the tax on the refunded part comes back with it.
PetHour doesn't add sales tax anywhere today.
Which place's tax applies
- When your pet stays at the caregiver's home (overnight boarding, doggy daycare), the tax where the caregiver lives applies.
- For everything else — walks, visits, sitting in your home, grooming, training, rides — it's the tax where your pet lives.
- PetHour's service fee is taxed with the booking it belongs to.
- Caregiver plans are taxed where the caregiver lives.
Everywhere else
PetHour adds no sales tax anywhere else today. We're also registered in Virginia, where none of our services or fees are taxed. We add a state to this page on the day we start collecting there. Rates can change; your receipt always shows the exact tax on your booking.
